Getting Here

Direct airline service, charter flights, bus transportation, wellmaintained and well travelled highways make getting to Fort McMurray and area easy.

Highway 63 is the major route to the Wood Buffalo Region and Highway 881 provides an alternative scenic route to Fort McMurray. Enjoy the drive through the boreal forest, watch for wildlife and be sure to bring your camera.

An efficient public transportation system, cabs and rental car agencies make getting around the city a snap. River travel is still an option for business or pleasure, as it was in the days of the voyageurs.

There are operators who can fill your river transportation needs. Access to Fort Chipewyan is limited to air and river travel during the summer months and is an adventurous 280 kilometer trip by winter road during the colder months.

The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo runs a fleet of transit buses that service the urban areas of Fort McMurray. The bus fleet runs a variety of scheduled routes that service all of the urban areas within Fort McMurray. For more information check out Getting Around in Wood Buffalo.
