2018 Wood Buffalo Alberta Winter Games

The 2018 Wood Buffalo Alberta Winter Games were the largest multi-sport winter event ever hosted in the Wood Buffalo region, with over 6,000 athletes, coaches, officials, parents, spectators and VIPs coming to the region from Feburary 16-19th for the event. The Alberta Winter Games featured 20 different sports being played at 11 venues across the Wood Buffalo region, including Anzac, Fort McKay and Saprae Creek.

2018 U18 Baseball Canada Championships

The 2018 Baseball Canada 18U National Championship presented by Pepsi featured Provincial Champion club teams from BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, 2 from Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia, as well as the hometown Fort McMurray Oil Giants. Games were played at the Baseball Stadium at Shell Place and Ross Hennigar Park in Thickwood.

2018 ASAA Alberta Bowl

On November 23/24, 2018, Alberta's best high school football teams competed for the title of ASAA Provincial Champions at SMS Equipment Stadium in Fort McMurray. 5 games across 5 different divisions were played over the 2 days, featuring small rural high schools playing the 6-Man version of the sport up to powerhouse Calgary & Edmonton high schools.  

Over 500 players, coaches, parents, and officials were present for the event. 

2017 U21 Pan Am Volleyball Cup

U21 Pan Am Cup 2017 - Volleyball Canada

The 2017 U21 Pan Am Cup was hosted at the Syncrude Sport and Wellness Centre at Keyano College. The event consisted of 21 matches between 8 teams battling to take the title of North and South American youth volleyball champions and earn their spot in the following U21 World Championships. 

Attendance 6 countries

Barbados, Guatemala, Canada, PuertoRico, Cuba, Brazil, and Chile

Approx. 150 tickets sale per day which included week passes filling the bleacher seating for many of the games

 

2016 Baseball Canada Cup

The Baseball Canada Cup is Baseball Canada’s premier event. It is arguably the best players in the 17 & under age level across the nation. It consists of ten provincial teams that compete for the title and more importantly, these players have the ability to be scouted by amateur and professional scouts. The national tournament also services to assist in the selection of the Junior National Team players for future training camps and the National Team for the WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup.

2016 Alberta Artistic Gymnastics Championships

MacDonald Island Park hosted the 2016 Artistic Gymnastics Provincial Championships which included 500 male and female athletes representing over 30 clubs in the province. The event was hosted in partnership with the Alberta Gymnastics Federation and Norfort and drew nearly 1000 spectators and employed over 100 support personnel.

2015 Western Canada Summer Games - Wood Buffalo

In August of 2015 the Western Canada Summer Games took place across the Wood Buffalo Region, including venues in Fort McMurray and Anzac. Over 2500 Competitors came from around Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, and Yukon.

Keyano College was honoured to serve as host to bring the best atheletes in the nation to the North. The college and the community invested significantly into the sport of soccer and together they were able to propel the sport even further as new soccer players in Fort McMurray witnessed firsthand the caliber of CCAA soccer on  home turf,

The tournament took place at Shell Place at MacDonald Island Park a grand facility that accommodates multiple sports.
