Fort McKay is located approximately 55 kilometres outside of Fort McMurray, but is still a part of the Wood Buffalo region’s network of recreational facilities.

The Fort McKay Arena is the community’s home for broomball, curling, figure skating, hockey, and ringette during the winter months. From May to September, the ice is removed and the arena serves a venue for other sport and community events. The arena features a recreational softball/slowpitch field outside and is adjacent to the local youth centre. Guests to the arena can enjoy food from the concession and catering facilities between games or have their skates sharpened thanks to the in-house skate sharpening machine in the Pro Shop.
