MacDonald Island Park and the Suncor Community Leisure Centre

Welcome to Canada’s largest community recreation facility! Home to the Suncor Community Leisure Centre, the Miskanaw Golf Club and Shell Place, MacDonald Island Park has become the heart of the community it serves. After an extensive renovation in the latter part of the last decade, the modern version of the Suncor Community Leisure Centre opened in October, 2009. The evolution has continued with the addition of Shell Place, a community-led project officially opened in June, 2015 that added SMS Equipment Stadium (an outdoor performance stadium), a Baseball Stadium, badminton centre, non-profit shared space, indoor turf field house, hospitality and conference space and more to an already vibrant and energetic recreation experience.

Both the indoor and outdoor recreation facilities located on the Island are managed by a team of dedicated recreation professionals. ‘Mac Island’, as it is known locally, has become the home of sport, recreation and event excellence in northern Alberta!

You must must use barbless hooks when fishing

Sportfishing in Alberta is limited to barbless hooks – part of the province’s plan to improve Alberta’s fisheries by reducing hooking injuries and related stress on released fish. While most fisherman don’t need much of an excuse to buy new tackle, there is no need to replace all those hooks in your tackle box – anglers simply need pliers to pinch down existing barbed hooks. Refer to the Alberta Sportfishing Regulations for more information.
